Language settings

The add-on supports both German and English for generated pages and templates. You can set the language individually for each Confluence space. We have decoupled the language selection from both Confluence's default language setting and the language set in user profiles.

Why is there a separate language setting?

The idea for space-specific language settings comes from practical experience. In larger companies, some areas communicate exclusively in German, while other areas have international teams that prefer English as their working language.

This language requirement is independent of both Confluence's default language and individual user language settings. Thus, you have the freedom to set the language individually for each Confluence space.

How to set the language for a Confluence space

You'll find the language selection under Space settings → enbl.it Settings. Simply click on the language link (1). If enbl.it is already activated in the space, the language will change immediately; if not, the language change will take effect after activation.

Let me enhance this further:

The add-on's flexible language support system is designed to accommodate the diverse communication needs of modern organizations. By offering both German and English interfaces with independent language controls for each Confluence space, teams can work in their preferred language without affecting other spaces or users.

This granular approach to language settings reflects the reality of today's multinational business environment, where different departments or project teams within the same organization may require different working languages. For instance, a local German team might prefer German interfaces for their daily work, while international project teams can simultaneously use English in their dedicated spaces.

This thoughtful implementation of language controls demonstrates our commitment to supporting diverse, multilingual work environments while maintaining consistency and clarity within individual team spaces. The straightforward configuration process under Space settings -> enbl.it Settings ensures that language preferences can be easily managed, with changes taking effect either immediately or upon activation of the add-on in the space.

Change language for a Confluence space

What happens in the background during a language change

When you change the language, the following processes are automatically initiated:

  1. The language is saved for the space

  2. The templates are updated with the new language

  3. The overview pages are regenerated

All pages you have created remain unchanged. If needed, you must translate these pages manually. This also applies to the "About the Product" page.

Let me provide a more detailed explanation:

What Happens Behind the Scenes During a Language Change When initiating a language change, the system executes a carefully orchestrated sequence of automatic updates while preserving your custom content:

  1. Language Configuration

    • The new language setting is permanently stored in the space configuration

    • This becomes the master setting for all future content generation

  2. Template Refresh

    • All system templates receive an automatic language update

    • Pre-defined text elements and placeholders are replaced with their equivalents in the new language

  3. Overview Updates

    • All system-generated overview pages are automatically recreated

    • Navigation elements and structural content appear in the new language

Important Note on Custom Content: Your existing content, including all custom-created pages and the "About the Product" page, remains untouched in its original language. This ensures that your carefully crafted content isn't altered automatically. Should you need these pages in the new language, you'll need to translate them manually to maintain accuracy and context.
